Overview
Sage Creek's main rival and sister school, Carlsbad High School has always had a strained rivalry. In recent years, especially 2016-2017, attempts to improve said relations have been attempted but ultimately the fire of individuality burns hot within both schools.
Each year, the SCHS vs CHS Basketball Game is one of the most widely attended events, sometimes even outperforming the Hoopcoming Basketball Game.
History with Sage Creek
Pre-Sage Creek Era, Carlsbad High School(CHS) was the only primary high school within the Carlsbad Unified School District but rumors spread of a new high school being built to mitigate the population and divergence in District assets. CHS has been the longstanding "jewel" of Carlsbad and had recently gone under heavy construction and with a breath of fresh air and new competition to be had, the time was ripe. The two schools were supposed to create a yin-yang balance between academic/STEM and academics/sports/liberal arts.
CHS and SCHS students have always had differing views of each other. As such, the Sage Creek "kids" were supposed to be "nerdy, weird, immature, and into other stereotypical cliches" and were seen to be the underdogs in the relationship. Sage Creek students specifically garnered the stereotypical "stoners, jocks, and basic girls" as the crop of CHS. This cross cutting tension, brought with it a ember that would lay dormant until 2017. The two schools have competed in the Avocado League with both engaging in competitive play in all areas of sport until a recent change in 2017 by Carlsbad Unified School District to move Sage Creek High School into the East League by 2018-2019.
By 2016-2017 Sage Creek had garnered enough manpower and scholastic clout to openly oppose CHS and garner significant standing as a burgeoning high school. During the infamous Battle of The Fans, CHS students displayed three 'K' signs in close formation resembling the white nationalist group during a white out game. The ensuing Sage Creek- Carlsbad Flame War of 2017 garnered mass attention and student involvement. The battleground being the Instagram page, "battle of the fans" with students mudslinging and "harassing" each other. Both schools were disqualified ending in a white peace.
As such, Sage Creek Administration, ASB, and Carlsbad Unified School District have made attempts as of 2017-2018 to reduce the tension and instill a more friendly rivalry.
