KUSI Sports Battle of the Fans is a competition based on several aspects of student sections at high schools around the area. However instead of sparking friendly competition the SCHS vs CHS Basketball Game 2017 saw the spark of something no one wanted. When Carlsbad High School Students attending the game decided to hold up three 'K' signs in a sinister formation during the white out game, a pseudo-conflict erupted on the social media platforms of Twitter and Instagram. Known as the Sage Creek - Carlsbad Flame War of 2017 it saw many students get apprehended for vulgar comments and profanities. In the end, however, both schools were disqualified.

Sage Creek had not participated in any other Battle of the Fans events until winning Battle of the Fans 2019.
